High School: ATV Prep & Field Repair Intensive
Course Overview
ATVs can be our lifeline when entering the backcountry for recreation, subsistence or any other reason. There’s little worse than finding yourself marooned miles from the trailhead because you didn’t take the time to familiarize yourself with your machine. This intensive focuses on the preparations ATV users should make prior to use & the field repairs they might anticipate making.
Students will learn how to perform a comprehensive pre-trip evaluation of their machines. They will build practicable proficiency in small engines, familiarizing themselves with common issues & their solutions. Students will grasp the fundamental science behind the systems addressed. Students will engage in a collaborative effort to advance team understanding in preparation for a safe season on the trails. Topics addressed will include but not be limited to:
- Fluid checks
- Brakes
- Electronics
- Field repair
- Emergency protocols
- Emergency kits
