Course Overview
In this intensive, students will get a look at what it takes to get your foot in the door in the construction trades. With a deep but swift dive into safety, hand & power tool use, carpentry, residential electrical & welding, students will emerge with an understanding of the fundamentals of each discipline. This intensive acts as a sampler of the trades available for deeper dives during the school year.
Learning Outcomes
Students will learn how to use the hand & power tools employed every day on job sites. They will demonstrate proficiency in the basics of carpentry, electrical & welding, with introductory experience in each discipline. They will engage in purposeful repetition and practical application in each of the trades, getting a chance to experience first-hand the extraordinary sense of accomplishment that the trades provide. Topics studied will include:
- Hand & power tool use
- Shop safety
- Systems in construction
- Basic framing
- Fundamentals of a handyperson
- Basic electrical
- Basic welding

Appropriate shop clothing is required (no synthetics permitted on welding days, work boots required)
