Schedule
Monday – Thursday 1 PM to 5 PM daily
Course Overview
While our carpentry courses usually focus on residential framing techniques, this intensive takes our comprehensive focus on safety & proper tool use & applies it to smaller, craftier projects. Students will learn the use of more precise tools in an environment that encourages their creativity while building fundamental skills. Each student will design & complete a final project.
Learning Outcomes
Students will expand their knowledge of the power tools, design strategies & techniques they’ve learned already. They will demonstrate proficiency in reading plans, using tools & executing a plan. They will improve all carpentry skills through purposeful repetition and practical application, with attention to the math employed in pursuit of the build & the cultural relevance of the project at hand.
Resources
NIT will provide in-shop PPE. Work boots recommended.
Determination of Credit
Each intensive will include two primary components:
- 32 hours of in-person instruction at the NIT shop
- Completion of the Student Workbook
Student workbooks are developed using NIT’s curriculum and will include reading assignments, vocabulary and key concept reviews, independent exercises, embedded video content with required responses, knowledge checks, safety highlights, and a final independent written project
