High School: Small Engines 3 Intensive

Course Overview

Tuition Cost: $500

Take your knowledge of Alaskan small engines to the next level with an intensive deep-dive into advanced systems, maintenance and repair. Students will work as a team to bring their skills to a significant repair.

Students will use learned skills to diagnose, plan and execute a significant repair on an ATV engine issue, working together to perform analysis & execute their findings. They will demonstrate proficiency in small engines, identifying the issues with the central project and working to implement their remedy. Repairs will include both a significant engine issue & attention to service standards, ancillary systems & troubleshooting procedures. Students will develop their confidence by approaching a project with professionalism, a firm foundation of the mathematical and scientific underpinnings of their work, and a collaborative effort. Systems examined & considered will include:

  • Engine
  • Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Wheels, tires
  • Diagnosis
  • Plan of repair
  • Communication Process

Our courses meet the requirements for credit & can qualify for credit transfer as shown below. Please note - transfer of credit is always at the discretion of the receiving school.

Determination of Credit:
Each intensive will include two primary components:

  • 32 hours of in-person instruction at the NIT shop
  • Completion of the Student Workbook

Student workbooks are developed using NIT’s curriculum and will include reading assignments, vocabulary and key concept reviews, independent exercises, embedded video content with required responses, knowledge checks, safety highlights, and a final independent written project.

These workbooks are designed to provide a thorough overview of the subject matter, supporting both asynchronous learning and individual skill development.

*Cancellation Policy: cancellations must be made up to three business days before the start of class to receive a refund.  Registrants that do not provide three business days notice of cancellation or rescheduling will be billed in full.
